Nothing beats down when it comes to warmth for weight, and Rab's down is warmer than most. It is ethically sourced from Polish ducks, which have evolved to fend off the bitter winters of the steppes. An additional benefit is that the down isn't air freighted, so gets less compressed in transit and therefore lofts better. The Arete is filled with 230g of 650 fill power down, compresses to a ball of about 12cm and weighs only 520g. It has a light but tough Pertex Microlight outer shell to keep off the worst of the weather. There are two zipped hand warmer pockets, with toggles to make them easy to use with gloved hands, as well as a drawstring at the hem to prevent draughts blowing up. A fleece-lined collar adds a nice snug feel. In ever-fashionable black.
